GOOD NEWS words & music by: Dom Franco (c.) Copyright 2023

Loosely based on a true story
Joe was my one of my favorite cousins growing up and
we were close friends. Joe's family came to visit us often,
and during our High School years, Joe spent
many Summer vacations at our house.

Years went by and I began playing in bands at Bars and Night clubs. Joe was playing bass with a Christian Church group. I went to hear
him play once. And He came to hear my band. But Joe had "changed" he didn't like the music I was playing and the drugs & drinking...
He wouldn't come inside, but just stood outside the bar and listened.

One other night we even tried to hook him up with a "Date" but he
would have no part of it. Later Joe told me about JESUS,
He said he was reading the Bible and he was praying for ME!

A few years later I accepted Christ, and I realized that God had
used "COUSIN JOE" as well as others to witness to me and plant
seeds of faith that would later grow in my heart. Praise the Lord
for my Cousin Joe.

lyrics

I headed down to the saloon to try to drink these blues away
When old Cousin Joe said don't you know boy there's a better way
You're going the wrong direction down the whiskey road
Why don't ya hop up on the wagon and drop your heavy load
And you won't have the blues once you believe the good news

Yes I used to have the blues til I heard the good news that day
When old Cousin Joe said you can bow your head right here and pray.
You can tell the Lord your troubles, no matter where you are
He will always meet you there and His love will fill your heart
And you won't have the blues, once you believe the good news

I used to sing these sad songs, down at the local saloon
But now that I sobered up, I figured I could write a brand new tune
So I opened up the Bible and I took the Lord's advice,
Then I strummed this old guitar and the chords came out real nice
Yes I used to have the blues until I learned the good news

Well now you might have the blues if it feels like you're alone
But Jesus wants to be the best friend that you've ever known
You can get down on your knees, no matter where you are
He will always meet you there and His love will fill your heart
And you won't have the blues, once you believe the good news

So just ask the Lord to save you, He'll take away your sin
And when you see those pearly gates He's gonna say "welcome in"
And you won't have the blues, once you believe the good news

No you won't have the blues, once you believe the good news.
